Public defender has not met with me after each hearing, will be going to trial and dont know what is going on?

My son is in jail for 5 felony counts. Robbery, (2 ) Attempted murder (2) Assault. My son did not do it. One of the witness said he looked like a guy he went to school with and on a picture lineup picked out my son. At the prelim he said he it was not my son, the the police pressured him to pick a pic. and he picked my son and wrote at the bottom "I never forget a face", but that he was drinking that night and does not remember. The other 2 witnesses said it was not him but they are still taking it to trial. They do not have any evidence on him, his has never been a violent person. Why would they take him to trial? The public defender does not meet with my son after every hearing my son tell him he wants to speak to him about the case and he tells him he will see him after and leaves my son waiting...he has done this twice and my son want to give him information on his case and ask him why he does not rebuttal the DA when he does a motion!! Is this fair?
